I am curious about the ability to customize QuoteAdvantage to create dependent picklists for products. We have a client who is interested in your product but would like to have the ability to specify which picklist options are available based upon the selection in a previous picklist in MSCRM. How easy is it to customize the source code? They have an internal IT staff that have the bandwidth to write their own code if it is supported.

Dependent pick lists are not supported, but a similar effect can easily be achieved using configuration rules. It's no problem to specify configuration rules that would lead a user towards making appropriate selections. The configurator is designed to handle situations like:

1. You can only have Product A if you have selected a choice from Category B.
2. You can only have Product A if you also have Product B
3. If you have Product A, then you're not allowed to also have Product C

Depending on your situation, it may be possible to solve your problem with this model.

Beyond that, you would probably need to replace the product configuration screen with something new. This is certainly possible and the remaining framework of the application would be very helpful in allowing you to achieve this goal faster.

Any experienced ASP.NET and C# developer with a basic knowledge of Microsoft CRM should be able to dig in pretty quickly. Everything in the application has been developed using Microsoft's standard APIs. There are no special tricks. ASP.NET and C# experience are the key requirements.
